「工芸とデザインの境目」展 The Boundary between Kogei and Design

「工芸」か「デザイン」かー。
工芸とデザインはものづくりという点では同じであるが、両者は異なるジャンルとして区別される。しかしながら、それらをつぶさに観察するまでもなく、両者の間には「デザイン的工芸」また「工芸的デザイン」とも呼べる作品あるいは製品があるように思われる。
本展覧会では、「プロセスと素材」「手と機械」「かたち」「さび（経年変化）」といった観点から工芸とデザインを見つめ直すことによって、それらの曖昧模糊とした境目を浮き彫りにする。それと同時に、最先端技術の発達などによって多様化が進む両者の新たな地平を考察する。

What is the difference between kogei (craft) and design? Objects the maker forms by hand we call kogei. A designer, in contrast, does not participate in making the object. Both kogei and design share the same spirit of creation, yet they are non-interchangeable. When we view both as "the making of things," is there a boundary between them? This exhibition’s aim is deliberately to ask such questions.
