国際工芸シンポジウム金沢は、工芸を美術と産業というふたつの方向から紐解き、工芸の将来性と可能性を探っていきます。
工芸のユニークさは、技法材料やそこから生まれる美的価値に留まらず、生産様式や流通の仕方などの全般に渡ります。グローバル化した現代アートや他の美術ジャンルと比較すると、地域的な特色や小規模生産などの工芸らしい特質が、行き詰まりを見せてきている現代文化にヒントを与えているともいえます。
本シンポジウムでは、世界的な研究者、キュレーター、オーガナイザーが集まり、美術的な価値づけ（キュレーション）の問題と市場の形成（マーケット）の問題という工芸を巡るふたつの課題から、工芸の現状や将来像をお話頂きます。

The Kogei International Symposium, Kanazawa, will unravel Kogei (crafts) from the directions angles of art and production, delving into its future promise and potential. The uniqueness of Kogei does not end with the aesthetic values born from the techniques and materials used, but also in general, extends to modes of production and methods of distribution as a whole. By comparing Kogei with the globalization of contemporary art as well as other genres of art, typical Kogei characteristics such as its distinctive regional elements and small-scale production, could provide hints to modern culture which is itself showing elements of an impasse. At this Symposium, international academics, curators, and organizers will gather to discuss the current status of Kogei, and their visions for itsthe future of Kogei, focusing on two themes regarding the issues surrounding Kogei, namely, the formation of the market and artistic evaluation (curation).
